2025年8月15日（金）より、Jinny Street Gallery（渋谷区・神宮前二丁目）にて、アーティストKITTYZILLA による絵画展「猫はどこへ消えた？ 商店街の過去・現在・未来」が開催されます。
本展は、地元住民へのインタビューから得た実際のエピソードをもとに、Orenの独特な画風とオリジナルの猫キャラクターを通して、再開発の波に揺れる東京・神宮前二丁目の街と商店街の記憶を描き出す試みです。消えていく風景と、そこに生きた人々の物語を絵として可視化することで、「日常に潜む変化」と「地域のこれから」にそっと目を向けさせてくれます。
The Past, Present, and Future of Jingumae 2-Chome
Starting Friday August 15th 2025, Jinny Street Gallery (located in Jingumae 2-Chome, Shibuya, Tokyo) will host a solo illustration exhibition by artist KITTYZILLA , titled: “Where are the cats?”
This exhibition is based on real-life stories gathered through interviews with local residents. Through Oren’s distinctive painting style and original cat characters, it attempts to portray the memories of Jingumae 2-Chome—a neighborhood undergoing rapid redevelopment. By visualizing disappearing scenery and the lives once lived there, the exhibition gently draws attention to the “hidden changes of everyday life” and prompts reflection on “the future of our communities.”

「猫たちはどこへ消えた?」のオープニングイベントは、2025年8月15日19:30からJinny Street Galleryに隣接するアートスペース＆バー「NININI」（東京都渋谷区神宮前2丁目3-23）で開催されます。
お湯とアートが混ざる神宮前二丁目の商店街
2025年8月14日（土）より始まる「猫たちはどこへ消えた？」では、アーティストKITTYZILLAが、東京・神宮前二丁目で出会った風景と、そこでインタビューした人々の話や記憶をもとに、地域の変化や地元を、彼女独自の猫の視点を通して絵画で描き出します。
地元住民とのインタビューから生まれたストーリーは、Oren独自の猫キャラクターや手描きの看板、昔ながらの商店の面影とともにキャンバス上で再構築され、変わりゆく都市の中に確かに息づいていた「生活の気配」を映し出します。
KITTYZILLAは本展について次のように語ります。
「この展示は、神宮前二丁目という小さな地域の“過去”と“今”にまつわる、ささやかな発見を描いたものです。地元の人たちへのインタビューを通じて浮かび上がったエピソードをもとに、東京の商店街にある魅力を改めて見つめ直し、これからの街のかたちを考えるきっかけになればと思っています。」
描かれるのは懐かしさだけでなく、住む人、働く人、遊びに来る人たちと共に良い街をどう築き上げるかという未来への問いかけでもあります。
From Friday, August 15, 2025, KITTYZILLA will present scenes from Jingumae 2-Chome, based on interviews with local residents. Through her original cat characters, she illustrates the changes in the area and its people from a feline’s perspective.
The stories gathered are reimagined on canvas through her hand-painted signs, nostalgic storefronts, and the lingering atmosphere of the old shopping district—capturing the “traces of life” that once filled this transforming city.
KITTYZILLA shares:
“This exhibition portrays small discoveries about the ‘past’ and ‘present’ of Jingumae 2-Chome. Through interviews with residents, I uncovered stories that made me rediscover the charm of Tokyo’s shopping streets. I hope the show encourages us to rethink what kind of neighborhoods we want to build moving forward.”
Her work goes beyond nostalgia, inviting viewers to think about how to create vibrant, livable cities with and for the people who inhabit them.
神宮前二丁目の商店街を猫の視点から
原宿のすぐ近くに位置する神宮前二丁目（通称：神ニ）は、都会の真ん中にありながら、地域に根ざした商店街文化が今も色濃く残るエリアです。新旧の個人店が共存し、住民同士の緩やかなつながりが日常の中に息づいています。
KITTYZILLAはこの街に通いながら、たばこ屋、写真館、喫茶店といった小さな店々で交わされる日々の会話や空気感に魅了され、そこに描くべき風景を見出してきました。
この10年で新しい店も増え、若い店主たちが地元商店会とともに地域を盛り上げている一方で、長年営業していた店舗が静かに姿を消していく光景も多く見られます。
KITTYZILLAは次のように語ります。
「昭和時代に生まれた商店街たちが消えていく気持ちと都会から猫の姿がどんどん見られなくなる様子が私の中で重なって見えました。地震対策や、省エネの装備など、いつまでも街を昔のままに残すことは現実的ではないと分かっています。野良猫のTNR (捕獲・ 不妊・去勢手術・元の場所に戻す活動)も猫の健康のためでもあり、環境保護に欠かせない。でも、ふと現れた野良猫が店と店の合間に消えていく瞬間の喜びはいつまで感じることができるのだろう？あの喜びも商店街で発見する看板や長年お店を頑張ってやってきた人たちに似ていると感じています。」
本展では、まるで路地を歩く猫のような視点で、神宮前二丁目の過去と現在を描き出します。日々の営みやささやかな風景に目を向けることで、私たちがこれからどんな街をつくっていくのか、そのヒントを観る人にそっと投げかけます。
The Shopping Street from a Cat’s Perspective
Located just steps from Harajuku, Jingumae 2-Chome—affectionately nicknamed “Jin-ni”—is a rare neighborhood where traditional shopping street culture still thrives amid Tokyo’s urban core. Here, old and new independently run shops coexist, and a quiet sense of community remains palpable.
Regularly visiting this area, KITTYZILLA was charmed by everyday conversations and the unique atmosphere of places like old tobacco shops, photo studios, and kissaten cafés. These scenes became the inspiration for her work.
In the past decade, while many new shops have opened and young business owners have been revitalizing the area alongside local merchants, many long-running establishments have also quietly shut their doors.
Oren reflects:
“To me, the disappearance of old shopping streets from the Showa era feels a lot like the way cats are vanishing from the urban landscape. I understand that keeping things ‘just the way they were’ isn't realistic with earthquake-proofing and energy efficiency needs. TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) programs help protect both cats and the environment. Still, I wonder how much longer we can experience the joy of a stray cat slipping between two storefronts. That quiet joy is similar to the delight of spotting an old shop sign or meeting a shopkeeper who’s been there for decades.”
This exhibition captures the past and present of Jingumae 2-Chome from a cat’s-eye view—inviting viewers to rediscover everyday life and find clues for how we might shape the cities of tomorrow.
ノスタルジーだけじゃない、“今”を描く理由
KITTYZILLAがこの展示を始めたきっかけは、2016年に友人たちと始めたInstagramアカウント「Tokyo Storefronts」でした。都内の小さな商店を記録し続ける中で、気づけば多くの店が閉店し、無機質なオフィスビルや空きテナントへと姿を変えていたのです。
「東京では今、再開発の波が押し寄せています。でも私は“懐かしさ”よりも、商店街が地域の暮らしの核だったことに関心があります。そこに人が集まり、物語が生まれていたから」とOrenは語ります。
葛飾で出会った猫カフェや、神宮前二丁目のたばこ屋で交わした会話。消えゆく風景のなかに、街が育んできた人と猫のつながりが残されていました。
本展では、そうした日常の記憶を手がかりに、神宮前二丁目の「過去」と「現在」を猫の目線で描き出します。
Why Not Just Nostalgia—Why “Now” Matters
KITTYZILLA began this artistic exploration through an Instagram account she started with friends in 2016, called “Tokyo Storefronts.” While documenting Tokyo’s small shops, she noticed a growing number of them closing—replaced by impersonal office buildings and vacant spaces.
“Tokyo is rapidly redeveloping, but I’m more interested in how shopping streets were once the heart of local life. People gathered there, and stories were born,” she says.
Whether it was a cat café in Katsushika or a chat at a tobacco shop in Jingumae 2-Chome, she found remnants of human–and feline–connection amidst fading urban scenery.
This exhibition visualizes the “past” and “present” of Jingumae 2-Chome through these stories—seen through the eyes of a cat.
オープニングイベントとJinny Lemon Sourの限定版ラベルの発表
2025年8月15 日（金）、Jinny Street Galleryにて、KITTYZILLAによる個展「猫はどこへ消えた？ 商店街の過去・現在・未来」のオープニングイベントを開催いたします。当日は、ギャラリーに隣接するアートスペース・バー「NININI」（〒150-0001 東京都渋谷区神宮前2丁目3−23）にて、アーティスト本人と巡る「アーティスト・ウォーク」や、地域とリンクしたアクティビティを予定しています。
また、ギャラリーの公式ドリンク「Jinny Lemon Sour」も、展示に合わせた限定ラベルで登場。今回のラベルは、KITTYZILLAの描く猫キャラクターと神宮前二丁目の街並みをモチーフにした特別デザインとなっており、展示テーマと街の記憶が1本の缶に詰め込まれています。この限定ラベル版「Jinny Lemon Sour」は、数量限定で一部の地元飲食店にて提供されるほか、オープニング当日にはNININIでも楽しめます。

Opening Event and Limited-Edition Jinny Lemon Sour
On Friday, August 15, 2025, the Jinny Street Gallery will host an opening event for the exhibition. Visitors can join a special “Artist Walk” led by KITTYZILLA herself, beginning at NININI, an art space/bar located next to the gallery (2-3-23 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0001). There will also be local activities tied to the exhibition theme.
A limited-edition Jinny Lemon Sour will also be released during the exhibition. The label, featuring KITTYZILLA’s cat characters and Jingumae 2-Chome cityscape, captures the essence of the show in a single can. Available in limited quantities at select local restaurants and at NININI during the opening night, the drink offers a unique way to enjoy art through taste.

KITTYZILLAについて
KITTYZILLA (キティジラー)/Naomi Oren (ナオミ・オレン)
ロサンゼルス生まれ、東京在住のイラストレーター。
2009年に来日し、日本の玩具メーカーに勤務する傍ら、浅草の職場近くで出会った黒猫「クロ」との生活を通じて、猫を通した東京の風景表現を開始。
以降、都市に潜む変化や日常のユーモアを、彼女独自の猫キャラクターたちの視点で描き出している。現在は「KITTYZILLA」として東京を拠点に活動。
About KITTYZILLA / Naomi Oren
KITTYZILLA (Naomi Oren) is an illustrator born in Los Angeles and based in Tokyo.
After moving to Japan in 2009 and working at a toy company, she began expressing Tokyo’s cityscape through the lens of a black cat she befriended near her office in Asakusa. Since then, she has created whimsical illustrations of everyday Tokyo scenes using original cat characters to highlight the humor and quiet changes in urban life.
She currently works under the name KITTYZILLA, creating art from her Tokyo studio.
